How-To: Replace the Water Pump on an '03 Matrix
August 9, 2011
Hello again Toyota fans!

Over the weekend a customer dropped off their '03 Matrix equipped with the 1ZZ-FE engine and wished to replace the water pump on the vehicle. If your Matrix has over 90,000 miles then chances are that the water pump is getting old and tired, so follow this elementary write-up to swap out that worn water pump by yourself!

**Helpful Reference Material**
2003 Matrix Water Pump diagram- Access the diagram by clicking on the 'Get Info' button under the 'Parts Listing' tab, a window pops up and you press the 'Go' button. The diagram is thereby displayed.

1) Drain the cooling system.

2) Remove or disconnect the following:

Negative battery cable
Right-hand engine under cover
Drive belt
Alternator
Water pump

2) Install or connect the following:

Water pump. Torque bolts marked A (short) to 80 inch lbs. (9 Nm) and bolts marked B (long) to 96 inch lbs. (11 Nm).

Alternator
Drive belt
Right engine under cover
Negative battery cable

3) Fill the cooling system to the proper level.

4) Start the vehicle, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

5) You should be all done. Keep in mind that I wrote this in haste so I didnt elaborate on each individual step as much as I usually do. I will supplement the guide with further information should anyone request it :)

Sorry but I cannot find that tab to display the "get info" button anywhere on that page. I could really use looking at it . is there a chance that there may be another page to get that to pop up?

here is where i'm looking: http://www.toyoland.com/forums/read.php?1,933,933

thanks

You probably went too far. I've tried it in both IE and Firefox web browsers. Just start all the way out at the home page and select your car.
