trim level of camry 96
September 6, 2010

I am trying to find out the trim level of my Camry 96. Nothing is written about this in the sticker at the drive side door nor in the back of the car. When I go to repair shop, some write it as XLE and some write other name. How do I find out its actual trim level? Because it is sometimes important when I buy parts online. For info, its radio antenna is in front side.

Also, how do I find out whether it is US made or Japan made? Its vin # is 4T1BG12..........

Sometimes the trim will be indicated by the VIN, not all the time though.

Given that snippet of the VIN: 4T1BG12

4 - Country of Origin: USA
T - Manufacturer: Toyota
1 - Vehicle Type: Passenger Car
B - Body: 4 door Sedan
G - Engine: 2.2L 4 cylinder (5S-FE)
1 - Series Code: (tied with postion #4, )
2 - Restraint: Manual Belts w/Driver's Side Airbag
The next 4 positions, I guess, based on the most common ones out there.

X - Model / Platform (should be a "K" for Camry)
X - Check Digit (could be anything, used to verify legit VIN)
X - Model Year: (should be a 6 for 2006)
X - Manufacturing Plant: (Likely U - for the Kentucky plant, other valid entries are M,R,S,W,X,Z for other USA plants)
XXXXXX - Positions #12-#17 are for the unique serial number for this car.

Dont take it as absolute truth, only way to know for sure is to pull the original worksheet for the car (i.e., Window Sticker and associated build sheet that they sometimes stuff into the car).

You beat me to it!

The build sheet... not sure where Toyota puts those but other companies shove them behind the glove compartment or on the underside of the seats. Honestly I havent seen a build sheet on a new car made after 1991.
