I’ve been writing about cars for over 20 years. Before Toyoland I contributed to AutoWeek Digital and Road & Track. I’ve tested a lot of cars in that time and the honest truth is most of them aren’t as good as their press launches suggest.
I took over the editorial lead at Toyoland in 2018 and expanded coverage from Toyota-only to every major brand. The focus hasn’t changed though — reliability data, real ownership costs, and which model years to avoid. Those are the things that actually matter when you’re about to spend $25,000 on a used car.
My specialisms are Toyota, Honda, Ford, and the North American truck and SUV market. I also cover car finance in more detail than most automotive sites bother to — because a bad PCP deal can cost you more than an unreliable car.
I currently drive a 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser with just over 60,000 miles on it. It has needed nothing beyond scheduled maintenance. It remains the most straightforward argument for Japanese engineering I have personally experienced.

I’m based in Milan and I cover the European car market for Toyoland. I’ve been doing this since 2019. Before that I was writing about cars in Italy, where you develop strong opinions about German engineering fairly quickly.
My focus is BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and Volkswagen — the brands that dominate European roads and the ones buyers here ask the most questions about. I road test across Italy, Germany, France, and the UK. The same car can feel like a different ownership proposition depending on which country you’re running it in, and that context rarely makes it into reviews written from a press fleet in California.
I also cover the EV transition in Europe closely — the incentive structures, the real-world range in winter, and the Chinese brands arriving faster than most European buyers realise. BYD is not a future story in Europe. It is happening now.
I don’t do press trips or manufacturer hospitality. It makes the writing slower but the recommendations more reliable.

We try not to accept payment in exchange for positive coverage. Manufacturers and PR agencies generally contact us after a car has already been reviewed — not before. That separation helps us write freely, without worrying about access or relationships. When something genuinely stands out, we say so. When it doesn’t, we say that too. Our goal is to be useful, not promotional.
When we get something wrong, we correct it openly. We update articles, add a note explaining what changed and when, and log significant corrections on our Corrections Policy page. We would rather acknowledge a mistake clearly than quietly rewrite our way around it.
Affiliate links exist in our content and we are upfront about that. When a link earns us a commission, we try to flag it. Those commissions tend not to influence what we recommend — we generally link to things we would point readers toward regardless. Full details are on our Affiliate Disclosure page.
